A recent study suggests the thought put into gift giving counts far less than the monetary worth of the gift. This new evidence contradicts the common belief that you don’t have to spend a lot on someone to make his or her Christmas bright. In fact, the study found that jewelry, expensive electronics and high-end clothing were favored over meaningful cards, photographs in tacky frames, or virtually anything homemade. “The results are clear,” said John Grinchley, head researcher of the study. “If you want to show your friends and family you care about them this holiday, you have to spend a lot of money.” The researcher went on to state that if you are really in a pinch, nothing says Merry Christmas like an envelope full of cash.
